EURAC – Accademia Europea per la ricerca applicata e il perfezionamento professionale Bolzano

The Institute for Renewable Energy, with more than 70 researchers, is one of eleven institutes at the European Academy of Bolzano (EURAC), an interdisciplinary centre for future-oriented research.

With research in five distinct areas, the Institute studies technologies that produce and manage energy at different scales: from industrial applications to integration in buildings, and from the definition of the energy balance of individual buildings to energy plans for entire districts or cities.

The Institute uses a number of methods in its research, including dynamic energy simulations, prototyping, measurements in the Institute’s laboratories and monitoring campaigns. The results of this research offer concrete support to companies that are developing innovative products and systems. EURAC researchers develop strategies, technologies and solutions for the most relevant challenges of our time: the sustainable exploitation of natural resources, economic prosperity and population health. This research is inspired by the local environment, but opens itself up to a wider European and international dimension. More than 300 EURAC researchers participate in international research consortia and have scientific partners in more than 50 countries worldwide. Furthermore, they collaborate with international organisations such as the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Alpine Convention.
